Re: advice on daughter

They do not have the legal grounds to force her to do on-line
schooling. If she wants to return to the classroom, that is her
choice. Remember to put the request for an evaluation in writing.
They won't want to do it because she's 18 and this is her last year,
so they are not going to want to deal with the paperwork and they'll
stall, hoping you'll go away. Your daughter will need to sign the
paperwork and sign a statement that she wants you to have access to
her school records or else the school will not discuss any of her
educational issues with them because she is an adult. If your
daughter doesn't want to go the special education route, then you need
to find a way to get her school work complete. I'm a little concerned
that she was diagnosed with depression so soon after the seizures and
seizure meds were started. It is possible that the new meds simply
make her very tired and that different medication could be tried to
control the seizures without resorting to depression meds.
Personally, I think doctors are way too quick to diagnose depression
in women, when there are simply underlying health issues that are not
being addressed. I can't tell you the number of times I've had
doctors suggest I take anti-depressant meds, but I have always
refused. I'm tired, not depressed! Yes, I realize being tired is a
sign of depression, but I think there has to be a feeling of
hopelessness and lack of motivation as well. When my health issues
are under good control, I feel great and have more energy. wasub
