I have a multi-level Art class that is considered advanced. I have three G/T students in that class as well as having to create three different levels of lesson plans. I have just found out that a student who is on the spectrum, very low IQ and who normally isn't outside of an AVLS class will be put in this class. He doesn't like to get messy, he is bigger than I am, he has a history of lashing out when upset and he runs. I am 60 year old and while I've had many special needs students before, they were never this limited. Also, he doesn't like getting messy. His contact teacher seems to think we do kindergarten glitter and glue. Is this appropriate placement? Have you any ideas how to work with this student? The contact teacher has a history of disappearing so she probably will be no help.

Betty Ann Does the student have an aide who would be coming with him? That could make a huge difference as to whether he would be able to participate appropriately.
