Good teachers always use the weekly spelling test as a diagnostic assessment and differentiate instruction by testing on the words students do not know, supplemented by unknown words from their own writing, results of diagnostic assessments, and commonly confused words or homonyms. Mark Pennington Not every teacher will be able to differentiate spelling instruction with five groups. How impressive! But we can do more than just test on Monday, do a crossword puzzle, write each word ten times, tell parents to study with their child, and test on the same words on Friday.

Cara A great way to differentiate spelling instruction is by using the site VocabularySpellingCity. This site lets you create words lists, use them in free games, resources, and printables, and even give your spelling tests. You can create individual lists for each group. [link removed]
