In the parish that I grew up in we were always taught to pass “the test.” As I am now in college to become an Early Childhood Educator I realize how important it is to keep students engaged and learning. I believe that some schools focus too much on getting that high score instead of teaching their students with fun and excitement. I’ve been taught that lessons should be engaging and active to keep the students focused and excited about learning. When schools start focusing on the test they tend to take away that excitement. I think it’s important to find a balance where the classrooms are still active and engaging but also get the material in that is necessary to pass the test. I can’t tell you how many years I remember taking time from language arts or reading in elementary and secondary grades to do practice test.
