Re: Failing Student Teaching

Kate: I realize you were using humor in your post, but as a student
teacher, you need to be concerned about basic grammar all of the time.
This is a chat board, but it is for professionals. If you hope to do
well with student teaching, you need to move from your college attitude
and enter the world of professional educators. When you communicate
with students, parents, other teachers and administrators, you won't
have time "to do a draft, proof read, revise, and submit my final thesis
for approval". Using correct grammar, both in writing and speaking,
should become automatic to you. Student teaching is a transition period
when you must move from being a college student to becoming a teacher.
I think that is what posters were trying to tell you. It often is
difficult for student teachers and beginning teachers to find the
balance between their own personality and expectations for them as
teachers. I'm sure you know that you will need to dress differently as
a student teacher from the way you dressed to go to class as a student,
and you also will need to communicate and present yourself differently.
Best of luck with student teaching! Keep being excited and keep your
confidence. Student teaching is very stressful for most people, but it
also should be fun and exciting. Enjoy the experience!
