I would also assume it would be a good idea. You'll at least have
some experience under your belt, especially if you're able to get
a long-term subbing position.
I was a December graduate who taught the same group of students
from the middle of December through the beginning of April. When
the original teacher returned from leave that April, I stayed on
as a daily sub until school ended in June. I received my first
"official" teaching job that July. When being interviewed, I was
able to reflect on my student teaching experience as well as my
long-term subbing experience.
