I finished my student teaching in November of 2007. I was able to
sub for a maternity leave. When the sub job was over, they asked
me to take a para job for the rest of the year.
Although I HATED being a para, it was a great way to get my foot in
the door. It led to a full-time teaching position at a school I
love.
I would highly suggest subbing - you are able to "put your face"
out there to principals and teachers. It also helps you see what
different grade levels would be like. I am teaching middle school
now. I always said I would never teach those hormonal smart-a$$
middle schoolers, but subbing helped me find out that I really like
this age group.
Good Luck!
