I live in a fairly nice working class neighborhood,
probably a 7 or 8 on a scale of ten in our little part of
L.A. Next door to me there is a nice lady who has worked
every day for the 18 years I've lived here. Her daughter
had kids as a teen and basically never moved out, so the
daughter and her now teenaged sons (19 and 17) now live there.

This is basically a drug dealer's paradise. It is so
obvious that the sons and probably the mom are dealing
drugs. Grandma just seems resigned to it. She says she is
sick of it and plans to retire soon, sell her house, and
move to Arizona.

In the meantime, every day, all day, I hear the sound of
young people just having a great old time. People in their
early twenties drive up in $40K cars and spend all day in
the driveway, just smoking dope and having a grand old time,
while ME, I'm feeling like an idiot, sitting here working my
tail off to pay my mortgage while all these punks just live
off their drug deals. They play music, wash their expensive
cars, smoke pot (which comes in through my air conditioner)
and just laugh and fool around day in and day out.

What is wrong with this picture?

Please, don't advise me to call the cops. A retired
sheriff lives two houses down from them. The daughter of
the people next door on the other side is an LAPD officer
who taught the DARE program in my kids' schools. The
neighbors on the other side of me have called the police,
only to be told that the house is "being watched." I just
hope Grandma retires and sells before I try to sell my house.
