Post: About not getting jobs we're qualified for.......

It seems to be written in cement that school districts are
full of politics and nepotism. So many, many times, when a
position is filled, people shake their heads in wonder and
ask, "Why her/him??"
My district recently filled a position in one of the elem.
schools.
One of the applicants was, truly, perfect for this job.
She has several years' experience at that particular grade
level, she recently earned her teaching degree (after many
years of being a full-time aide at that grade level), she
had good recomendations, etc, etc, etc.
She got an interview, but not the job.
The job went to a gal unknown to many, who had one year's
worth of subbing experience (in a distant district), and
who, before that one year of subbing, had worked in a
medical office for the past few years.
I once was blown out of a job that I was very qualified
for, and that the head of the dept wanted me for...the job
went to a gal with absolutely NO experience...but her son
was the college roomie of the principal's son. That was
more than 20 years ago. I'd have stayed in that position
forever. The gal they hired didn't. They've had 3-4
others in there since. I never reapplied because the
position was alway 'filled from within'.
Over the years I have come to the conclusion that teaching,
as a career, is not at all appreciated or valued in this
country. The administrators all play games, and the
parents...Lordy, don't get me started! They all think
school is free babysitting.
Example of the latter: last week, a parent dropped her
afternoon K child off at school at 10 in the morning. (The
afternoon K class doesn't begin till 12:00.)
When gently confronted by the P, the mom said she had
errands to do and didn't want to have to take the kid with
her. The P, feeling for the kid, did not fight this
particular battle that particular day, but did make it
clear to the mom that this could NOT happen again. And the
mom was upset about that.
