as a mom and as a substitute/nursery school employee, I am shocked at some
of the comments on this board. Whatever happened to supporting out own?
We are paid to teach these children; not paid to treat them as "items" to
be dumped on the public school system. If your feelings are this strong;
then maybe you should reconsider entering this field of work. yes, I've
seen the changes over the years, K is getting more demanding by the second,
but does this mean that students can't handle the situation? I live in a
district where K is mandated all day and I've never had my own two kids
complain that the day is too long in school. They get used to the day and
chug along.

As for subbing in K all day long, it's extremely tough on the subs who
don't realize how demanding the little ones can be (from tattles; to boo
boos; to saying bad words; hurt feelings, etc.)then don't take those
jobs...I used to but don't anymore because of the above reasons and more

Do you have any kids? Because if you do you wouldn't have posted such a
comment. By choice, I put my two sons in a good/licensed NAEYC preschool
program to "prepare" them for a typical school day and it was worth all the
money in the world---kids who are NOT exposed to an early setting of being
around caregivers outside of their home do extremely poorly when they enter
K--they take longer to adjust and don't make the social connections
necessary to have a successful experience

Granted there are other options (handing them over to schools with no
proven track record; unlicensed; home daycare) and this adds up to
speculative results
