Re: About not getting jobs we're qualified for.......

I have to agree with Elyssa on this one. I raised my
daughter, took her to the library, played games with her,
watched her and her friends play together, while she learned
social skills for being with her family and observing our
behavior. She also excelled in school and is doing well in
college. She is a self sufficient person who has a good
work ethic and is a very responsible person.
Sandra, you said that teachers are paid to teach and that is
exactly right. The morals and values should be instilled in
children before they get to school and this is the job of
their family, not a paid care giver. This week is Teacher's
Convention in NJ and most schools are closed. The biggest
complaint that I hear? Where am I going to find someone to
watch my kids? I heard the same thing in PA when teachers
went on strike. Watching their children is the parent's
responsibility, not the school.
All too often teachers are viewed as babysitters. We are
supposed to be understanding when a child doesn't do his
homework because he is too tired from basketball practice or
the children are up late because Daddy doesn't get home
until 7 and the only time they can spend with him is after
he eats dinner. School is important but all too often it is
viewed as something to be "gotten through" with the burden
of educating the students placed solely on the teacher.
Parents and students also have a responsibility. When
sports, extracurricular activities, and parents social needs
come before school, then yes, teachers are babysitters. The
message is that school is not important and neither are
teachers.
