I know it is only January, but the school year is flying by - about half over already!! I am thinking that if I wait until May to look for summer work, it will be too late. Many employers who hire summer help have plenty of college students who have worked for them in the past, so that is our competition. I did find a summer job last summer at a recreational facility, but although I was initially offered lots of hours, I ended up getting very few until the college students went back to school in mid-August. I am going to start applying NOW to retail stores, kennels, and pet-sitting services. Not that these jobs pay well, but I don't see better options out there and I simply MUST earn some type of income this summer. Anyone else have any ideas?
BJ There are always cleaning jobs, and they always need people for evening shifts. That's the only steady work I could get last summer. I did a few hours of tutoring and worked at a learning center.

Ze Povinho I always manage to save at least 1600 dollars from my sub salary to pay bills for the entire summer.

pixie I have applied to my neighborhood convenience store, and this weekend I'm going to apply to Home Depot, which, according to their TV ads, is hiring "seasonal" employees and pays "higher than retail average." I looked into the local summer day camps, but don't want to compete with young, athletic college students and older teens....See More

BJ i'm taking the rest of June off for travel. Dont want to
be around 50 noisy kids, so no summer camp for me. My dad
recently left me some money so I can afford to get through
to the summer with my part time job at the learning center
- work is stimulating, kids are well behaved.
