Can you get this book, IN KUWAIT by Pattie Meyer, illustrated by
Mrs. Margaret Bosworth's Art Students? It would give you s flavor of
Kuwait. The Gulf countries are very different from other Middle
Easter countries. We don't generally see camels in the city. I once
saw camel races in the desert. What about writing to some classes in
the Middle East? Children can learn a lot from pen pals. Henna
designs are very beautiful and could easily be incorporated into a
literacy activity. There is a lot about henna on the net. Have you
heard about an ancient city called Palmyra in the Syian desert? Have
you read about the warrior queen named Zenobia? Check Google for
images of the Middle East. Stress the modern Middle East. What do
you know about Bharain and Dubai? Have you heard of the breathtaking
Atlas Mountains, the ancient city of Fez in Morocco? Don't restrict
yourself to Western stereotypes of the Arab world. They are not
rooted in reality, I wish you great good luck. Valerie in Kuwait
