I got on here just for this topic! I am having the same problem.
Students are finishing early and then are drawing because they
don't want to get books. It just got old to them. I think I have
decided on an idea after reading some of these responses and adding
to my idea I had in the works....so here it is, if you have
suggestions please tell! I have the cards from Mailbox third grade
books each month that cover a variety of skills. I have decided to
place each card on a small clothes line. I will number them and as
students get finished they can go get a card and write thier
answers on a piece of paper. This will allow them to take the card
to thier desk, get a little movement in, and review a skill. WE
will check this list together on Friday for those who did the
cards. If you do not have these cards they are really just little
riddles, word problems, make list of verbs, prefixes etc. Mostly
little reviews of skills in fun ways. I'm going to see how it
goes!
