There are some good free sites that are easy to use and
designed for teachers. I'd suggest Edublogs, which uses
Wordpress, a very popular blogging format.
There are also two wiki hosts for educators that give you
some more flexibility. Wetpaint Wikis in Education and
Wikispaces for Teachers let you set up a class account to
restrict access and to give you the option to allow your kids
to collaborate on your site.
I've used them all and they are all good. Look on the hosts
to see examples of other teachers' websites to get a feel for
what each can do. All of these hosts, and several others,
are described with links, on my site below.
