As someone coming from North Carolina, this is a thousand
percent true. North Carolina is the second lowest paying
state in the country. I went to middle school and high school
directly outside of the CMS district, and please let me tell
you that they are not a good district to work for. Not only
have many of my former teachers have said this, but many of
the students who attend these schools. North Carolina is
currently struggling desperately for teachers, as they do not
pay these well-deserved individuals enough money for not only
what they do, but for their survival. Houston, Texas
recruited students directly out of undergrad with education
degrees, offering them a starting salary of 45,000 - probably
twice as much as North Carolina will ever pay you. I was
given advice from a teacher who was in education in NC for
eighteen years - she told me if I wanted to work in
education, I needed to leave the state of North Carolina.
This is a sad statement, as my little sister is currently
pursuing a SPED degree. As this person stated, please
consider finding employment elsewhere.
