In accordance with NY State Law, new teacher certification
requirements took effect on July 1, 2016. Everyone's PD
banks have been reset to zero and you now have 5 years to
get 100 PD hours (CTLE). Everything is still up in the air
as far as whether school PD will count towards the 100
hours... it should be worked out by December 31st when new
teacher evaluations are supposed to be in place.

In the meantime, hold onto any PD agendas, course
documentation, etc., make sure you register at the TEACHNY
website in the month of your birthday or as soon as
possible thereafter (don't create a new account, just log
in and make sure you register) then just sit tight until
the new regulations are worked out.

Supposedly, even when everything is in place the NYS
Education Department is only going to contact a certain
percentage of license holders (starting 5 years from July
2016) to send in their PD documentation.
