I am a second year 7th grade math teacher (although I
have taught for 18 years at other grade levels mostly
tenth and above). This is my second year TRYING to use
the modules. Last year I strayed away after Module 1 and
this year I have barely touched Module 1, only consulting
it to see what the standards are that it covers. I am
under a lot of pressure to use the modules but I don't
find them very sound educationally. The lessons are too
long, the homework doesn't always reinforce the lesson,
not enough practice, many of the problems aren't well
written (ex. dependent and independent variable are
switched, money problems use decimals like 12.5 instead
of 12.50, etc.), formal assessments too infrequent,
reading level too high, and so on. I am wondering if I
just haven't given them enough of a chance? Who uses
them and do they work for you? If you don't use them,
what do you use? Is there a good textbook series out
there? Are people just writing their own lessons?
    Thanks for your input.
