Re: EUROPEAN KALEIDOSCOPE w/ EF Tours
Posted by Leslie on 6/26/05

I just returned from an EF tour and never again. If it had not been
for our teachers it would have been a complete diaster. I can eat
bad food that would be my choice to not eat it. But two nights in a
row our food was burnt so bad we couldn't tell what it was. For
breakfast (again I was not expecting much) they gave us a crossant
and water or coffee. For me, an adult that was fine, but for the
boys in our group they were always hungray. At one place we stayed
you could buy a 4 oz glass of oj for 1 Euro and a small yogurt for
another Euro. I always bought the extra so my daughter would have
something in her stomach. The place we stayed was so far out of
Avignon that it took a half hour to get there by bus. It was in an
area of abandon buildings. No phone within 2 blocks and our kids
had to walk threw the abandon building area to get to the phone. We
saw drug deals go down. The hotel was a dive. I was not expecting
the Ritz but this place was so bad. All I can say is the sheets
were clean. I could go on for a page about our experiece but I
won't. I do not work for a competitor of Ef, I am a parent who went
with their high school kid. I have read a few comments that the
teachers don't like to take parents. I believe that is because a
parent will stand up when they see something wrong and a kid will
respect their teacher and not say anything because of the authority
thing with the teacher. Our tour guide was totally useless. She did
not know anything about the areas we were in. Again, thank goodness
for our teachers. One last comment on the extra adventures. We went
to the Dahli museum as we were walking in we noticed the charge to
get in was 7 Euros EF charged us 20 Euro apiece. We were told it
was for gas. We were going to that city for lunch anyway and the
museum was in the middle to the city. Also it was less than a mile
off the highway. They made a pretty good profit off the 15 people
that went in. Also the Flamenco dancing would have been great if we
could have seen from the knees down. That adventure cost me 100
Euro! Don't get me wrong our teachers were wonderful and they were
as disgusted as we were. We had a great group of parents and kids
and saw so many extras due to our teachers taking us off the beaten
path. My advice to parents if they send there kids is to send a lot
of extra money for food. Talk to your kids about their safety and
what to do if they find themselves in bad areas. Also, all the the
kids who bought the Ef phone cards could not get them to work. My
MCI card from Costco worked perfect. Just know your country codes
and follow the directions. I do have one positive thing to say
about Ef and that was the buses we rode on were nice. I'm sorry if
there are spelling errors I am still at the jet lag phase.
