Re: CHECK THIS OUT - IGT CLOSED
Posted by Still Concerned on 3/15/06

I understand that people who traveled with the Maloofs want to believe
that they are victims like everyone else in this situation.
Unfortunately, this simply does not seem be the case. It bears
mentioning that in this strain, it was already brought to everyone's
attention that the Maloof's former travel company in the 1980's,
International Travel, did EXACTLY THE SAME THING to traveling students,
teachers and church groups. The article, from March 4, 1988, appeared
in the San Jose Mercury News. For those of you who wish to visit this
    directly, please go to http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/
Click on archives and search for Joseph A. Maloof.
Because it is archival, there is a charge to view the whole article. I
have pasted it below for reference:

[TOUR PROMOTERS FACING CHARGES CANCELED TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS COST PATRONS
    NEARLY $1 MILLION
ED POPE, Mercury News Consumer Writer

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office filed criminal charges
Thursday against the owners of a Campbell travel firm that allegedly
canceled European trips for hundreds of students and church members last
summer and failed to return their money.

More than 350 people from the Bay Area and around the state -- many of
them youngsters who worked jobs and held fund- raisers to pay for the
trips -- lost nearly $1 million when the owners of Travel International
    declared bankruptcy and sought reorganization.
Al Bender, chief of the district attorney's consumer fraud unit, said
Joseph A. Maloof and his wife, Sharon, were charged with 179 counts
involving violations of the state Travel Promoter Act.

They also are charged with three counts of making false and misleading
statements in conjunction with their new business, Travel Selections of
    Campbell, Bender said.

Travel International set up educational overseas trips, generally to
Europe, which were promoted through school sponsors solicited by the
Maloofs, Bender said. Most of the trips cost more than $2,500.]

    Enough said?
