What a sad state of affairs this is for all of you teachers and
your participants who paid money in good faith, expecting a
wonderful travel adventure, only to find that the company had
misappropriated your funds, provided no refunds, and then shut up
    shop!

Why is this allowed to happen again and again, with the same
individuals and companies (namely Travel Selections and IGT)
involved, while the owners either open up another agency under
another name or go off on their merry ways to work for an
educational travel company in another state, as though they did not
owe hundreds of thousands of dollars to their clients, employees
and creditors??????? What gall it must take to refuse all calls
and registered mail from people you have cheated! A request to
those of you who were defrauded: Please keep us posted on these
boards about the progress of your cases. It will be an excellent
learning experience for every traveler if you recoup your funds
and/or if these owners are, in fact, prosecuted and their assets
    seized.

Did you know that California requires all sellers of travel to
register with the State? Part of the statute reads: "Keeping
payments in trust: Some sellers of travel are required to deposit
all payments received into a trust account or to obtain a surety
bond on behalf of their customers. Others are not required to
maintain either a trust account or post a bond. All sellers,
however, who receive a payment from one passenger may not use that
money to buy travel on behalf of another passenger or to pay for
rent, overhead, or any personal use, until such time as it has
delivered to you the goods and services that you have purchased. If
a seller tells you that it is not able to obtain travel that you
have purchased because your payment has been spent on some other
trip, or for business or personal purposes, immediately contact the
police, your local District Attorney, or the Attorney General's
office. Such taking of your payment may be prosecuted as a felony."

Also, there is a Restitution Fund: If you are located in California
and purchase from a registered seller of travel whose principal
place of business is also in California, and you do not receive
what you have paid for, you can file a claim with the Travel
Consumer Restitution Corporation ("TCRC"). which operates the
Travel Consumer Restitution Fund. Registered California sellers and
out-of-state sellers whose stock is nationally traded are required
to pay an annual assessment to TCRC.

Both Travel Selections and International Grand Tours were
registered as sellers of travel in California. Strangely enough,
    IGT still is registered.

    Good luck to all.
