Our rural K - 12 school of 160 students received over $30,000 a year
in Title I funding. The money must be used in specific ways.. but we
are able to do the following:
1. Tutoring in math and reading for our students K - 6, and some
tutoring with our stimulus money for high school
2. We purchased laptops for the Title I students (they are in the
classrooms so others do use them)
3. We purchased Library books for the Title I students (in the
library)
4. We purchased math and reading supplies for the classrooms of
teachers with Title I students
5. We can have teachers of Title I students take college classes
6. We can get professional development classes
We actually struggle in spending the money in the proper ways.
We get funding from the five school districts that have children at
our school. We did have to survey the school families for income.
There is a form where they see the income guidelines and check yes or
no, and then add their address.
It is a little bit of a struggle with the school districts at first,
but we knew the law and it has been work it.
Wish we could get the money to spend for a teacher's aid, but thankful
for what we can do.
