I would not recommend a mammal. Rodents, birds, etc. will become
too stressed if moved over weekends or holidays and it is not in
the animal's best interest (and that should always be our first
concern). Also, while some students may be responsible pet
owners, we never know what kind of home we're sending the animal
to. Amphibians are easy to care for and do not need to be highly
socialized. They can be fine over a weekend if left with clean
water, food, and heat lamps controlled by a timer (if needed).
