Post: Final 12: Are you missing???

Posted by chris corrado on 8/27/08

    Dear Fellow Educators,

My name is Christine Corrado. This will be my 8th year
teaching 5th grade in New Jersey. For a few years, I have
participated in a postcard exchange. This year I have
decided to organize one myself. I started in June and
have several participants; however, I am missing 12
states. To make this a success I need one school from
each state and that is why I am contacting you. (First
    come, first serve)

AK, CT, DE, HI, ID, MT, NH, ND, OR, SD, VT, WY

Please email me if you would love your class to join in.
You might be asking what exactly it is…

Once you receive your list of states, you as a class or
your students individually will write one postcard to each
state on the list. Students will research and/or use
knowledge already known about their state to write a short
message. Then send them out and collect postcards from
other states that participate. Students will love getting
mail and learning about states near and far.

How does it fit into curriculum?
I have my students practice friendly letter writing, peer
editing, research, typing and aligning on the computer to
fit onto a postcard, locating states on the map using
    latitude/longitude coordination points. They don’t
realize how much they are learning!!!

If you are interested or know someone who may be, please
    email me at corradocd@yahoo.com

    Your name
    Grade
    School address
    Email address

    Sincerely,
    Christine Corrado
