Major Education Issues and Practical Classroom Tips
in December Webzine

More than 40 articles feature curriculum, classrooms, crafts

SAN DIEGO, CA -- The December issue of the Teachers.Net Gazette, with more than forty columns, articles and features is online at http://teachers.net/gazette/DEC02 and it's full of information, support, and inspiration for educators of all levels. The webzine features contributions by well-known author-experts, and expert classroom teachers.

Story book artist and author Eric Carle speaks from the new Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art about the power of teachers to do good and evil. A social worker offers tips for dealing with bullies, Harry Wong writes about how established procedures can provide continuity and comfort during real crises, and teachers offer tried and true activities for instant implementation in the preschool-12 classroom.

Dozens of educators have contributed articles about the best in children's literature, tracking, the writing process, reading instruction, accountability, homework, spelling, geography instruction, students as tutors, and much, much more. The latest update on Operation Deep Freeze includes riveting photos of the journey by helicopter to the Polar Sea and its Antarctic assignment. One features a dramatic birds-eye view of the steaming Kiluaea volcano crater.

One of the Gazette's newest features is the "Printables" section offering free, ready-to-print resources for classroom teachers. This month's printables include a variety of 2003 calendars, a Christmas vocabulary book, and an instant gingerbread figure family project.

Holiday crafts and creative recipes (Rudolph sandwiches, gingerbread playdough, and cinnamon applesauce dough for ornaments, etc.) are two of the regular features in addition to a month of quotes and a dose of classroom humor. Once again author Marjan Glavac offers website reviews and recommendations, while Rob Reilly's Ed-Tech Talk column provides a review of Storybook Weaver software program. Classroom photos provide a peek into two school environments.

The Teachers.Net Gazette has supported the education community since March 2000 and accepts submissions of articles according to guidelines posted in each issue.

All back issues remain available at http://teachers.net/gazette/backissues. Editor Kathleen Alape Carpenter and Technical Editor Mary Miehl can be reached by email at editors@teachers.net.
