The monthly column, Effective Teaching. debuted in the June issue with Your First Day. It chronicles a new teachers' strategies for using the first day of school to put in place the management map for the entire school year. Wong uses the teacher's "script" to illustrate the effectiveness of his motto, "If you do not plan, the students will plan for you. The effective teacher organizes and structures the classroom for his/her success, but most importantly, for the success of the students."
