The rules with Cal-STRS are you can sub in a STRS related
assignment and earn up to half the state teacher average pay
with no penalty. If you go over this amount it reduces your
STRS retirement.
My wife has to wait 6 months to sub with her former district.
Part of this is the PARS golden handshake buyout program. With
the lack of substitutes especially in Special Education she
would have no problems finding employment in former district.
There are also three other school districts where we live she
could sub for. In her former district, retirees from same
district earn $180 per day. Quite a good number. This helps
with the sub shortage.
Good luck with your decision
