I attended my very LAST open house two weeks ago. It
went very well and I'm glad that it is over.
This is the 6th week of school (only 30 more to go) so I
knew that the coaches would be sending students to
"tutoring". It's eligibility week and if students are
failing a class, they cannot participate in extra
curricular events (no pass, no play rule). No matter how
many times we ask the students to come in for real
tutoring before this week, they can't miss practice or
the coaches are "unhappy".
So, now, when there are 41 athletes out of 73 failing,
now it is important to them! Of course, the coaches hold
practice BEFORE sending them to us so they come in
wearing their practice uniform. Smelly, sweaty boys!
Luckily for them, I was still in my room at 4:45 (school
ends at 4) with other students who were making up a test.
What bothers me more is that once the season ends, the
coaches no longer worry about the students grades!!!
One of the many things I will NOT miss in retirement.
