For those of you who regret retiring, this is a good time of
year to reflect on retirement vs working at school. Where I
was teaching, primary children had school till the last days
of June, like today which was a glorious first day of summer.
The poor darlin's had been done with school way back in May
and there was still a whole week of June confinement to
endure. Field trips, sports events and end of year parties
could only go so far. No "fun" activity was fun anymore and
they were extra cranky because daylight till ten kept them up
from a full night's sleep. So I absolutely love retirement in
June ;) September is another matter but I think not only
teachers like the sense of fresh start and new supplies.
Perhaps August can be utilized to plan some appealing project
or trip as a replacement for the eagerness with which we
anticipated each new school year.
