You were planning on working one more year. Then the
unexpected happened.
How many more years do you need to earn higher benefit?
Can husband find another job? Is SS around the corner or part
of the picture?
If you can get out of the classroom then five more years
would be a different cup of tea. I lasted another 7 years by
moving out into counseling. Difficult position to obtain, but
I did it and the pay scale was higher than teacher scale.
You want the number of years, higher pay, higher retirement
factor, sick leave all to increase the benefit. I would run
the retirement tables and write things down and see where you
stand by working longer.
It is a balancing act. Your age also is a factor, if you are
50 it is too young, 55 probably you could last another 5. Age
60 you probably want out right now.
Go for golden goose egg job you might find it.
