I was reading Jeannie's post. I retired May 2016 and have
full insurance coverage through Aug. 31. I decided to get
one month of extended insurance (I turn 65 in Oct.) and what
a shocker. I will have the exact coverage (including dental,
vision, etc.), but the shocker was going from never paying
for insurance to $817 for that one month. Of course it's
COBRA since our district doesn't offer retiree supplemental
insurance. Oct 1 I will be starting my supplemental with
Wellmark, which is also what my fiancé, who retired 2 yrs
ago, got through his State job. He got a good deal set up by
the State, but when looking at the booklet with costs with
me, he discovered he could get a somewhat lower price by not
going through the State. He's thinking of possibly switching
over.
I think the most disappointing discovery for me was that
there wasn't any supplemental for this Fall with my district.
I was happy with UHC.
