Yes, I am sure the YC teachers are very relieved. I was on the
other side of the river so my district was not involved. However,
many of our teachers have kids in YC so I'm sure they were
impacted.
When I first started in my district, it had voted to strike. I was in a
terrible position at the time. I was newly hired as a temporary and
therefore had no rights. I called a member of the negotiating team
and he said that I absolutely have to go to work or I could lose my
job. I was sick to my stomach, scared to death, and yet worried
about my newly secured job. By the grace of God, the strike ended
the night before the first day. I will never forget being in such as
situation and I'm sure some newly hired YC teachers felt they
needed to go too. I understand why they needed to do what they
did, but it is an ugly situation all the way around.
