Re: should I move to Alabama?
Posted by Run-Out on 12/19/07

I don't think you should move to Alabama. Yes, it is true that the
South has come a long way and many issues are fading. The few that hold
old feelings of hate really stand out and are committed to resisting
change. It only takes a few that are still fighting the war that will
make your life miserable. This isn't a new game for these few and they
are very good and well practiced at driving out Yankees. I am
originally from Canada, but nevertheless still not a southern white
male. I have an appreciation for the close knit southern culture and
can respect the desire to preserve the culture. This unity is also a
fault because independant thinking is rare. If you accidentally offend
one, you offend many. The old saying "If they like you, they'll do
anything for you, and if they don't, watch your back" I found to be
    true.
If you are seen as a threat to the old way of life, and you will be by
some, you will tolerate harassment, vandalism, and character
assassination. With all the complexities in this life do you really
want to take on these added problems?
