Sounds like you've started early, which is great! You need
to go ahead with the entire process. Go ahead and ask for
the packet from the State Department. You can go ahead and
proceed with some parts like the criminal background search.
(You will have to have this even if you do one in NY)
Check with the state department to see if you will have to
take the ATPPT test. You may not since you are just
graduating. Did you have to take the Praxis I?
I would just recommend to get started right now. The AL
certification is the longest I've ever encountered. I move
every 2-4 years and have taught for 16 years, so I've had a
lot of experience with this process. AL has been the
toughest and most frustrating. This is the first year that I
did not get a job!
If you know which district you will be living, go ahead and
try to get your foot in the door. I found that the area
where I moved (small town) does not accept outsiders very
well!
