Re: To: Sarah A More to SARAH A

This is what I read on the general board. There is a whole
thread about it and the thread is very good! That you are
available for long-term sub jobs. That's how I got hired
seven years ago. On the first day of school, I was called by
the school where I now teach. They'd hired a long-term sub
(maternity leave) starting that day and the person didn't
show up. They asked if I was interested and I jumped at the
chance. It was 7th gr reading and English. I did six weeks
maternity leave and one more week because the theacher's
mother was very ill. During the last week I was there, I got
called into the office and was told to call a principal at
an ele. school near my house. They had an overload of 4th and
5th graders and were going to open a brand new classroom of
gr. 4/5. Was I interested? My principal let me go during my
plan time (for the interview) and I was hired to finish out
the year the next day! By the end of the year, numbers were
back down, so I knew that position wouldn't be there for the
next year, and head of HR came out and interviewed me in my
classroom. He said I'd get a job by fall. On the day before
teachers reported back, I got a call. It was a Sunday night
and it was two principals from my present school, where I'd
done the maternity leave. They had hired a man to teach 7th
gr Reading (SpEd) and had found out that he was not going to
take the position. Could I come and do the job for 9 weeks
as a sub, then interview and be offered the job? I said yes,
and that's how I got into the public system here...... and
I'm starting my 7th yr at this school- all due to long-term
    subbing jobs.
