I am currently at the end of a 9 month online alternative
certification program via Univ. of West. Fla. called
TeacherReady. The website is TeacherReady.org. This is
online program designed for those who already have Bachelors,
not necessarily in education. Alabama DOE advised if the
program was NCATE approved (which it is) it should not be a
problem; however, as I haven't submitted for AL certification
yet, that remains to be seen. The down side is that I have
had to take the 3 certification tests required by FL, as well
as the 2 certification tests required by AL. At completion,
I will be highly qualified in FL, but not necessarily in AL.
To be highly qualified in AL, must have the 4 x 4
requirements met (12 hrs. in math, 12 hrs. in science, etc.)
    Hope this helps!
