Re: Is this for real?
Posted by OPPOSED TO PADDLING on 4/03/08

    Hey Teachers

Guess what teachers, I went to Catholic School when I was young. I got paddled
too. It never worked for me. In fact I got my hands whacked over and over
again because I am left handed. I also was put in the closet when i was bad
and locked in there. So when I cam out and asked a question on a lesson I
wouldn't know the answer (why? because I was in the closet and couldn't see
the board !) So it became a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure for many
years. You know why- all because I was left handed and Evil according to the
nuns. All it made me was afraid and gave me anxiety and do poorly in class.
Some kids do not do well with this at all. I still relive it adn I didn't
learn a damn thing from it. There are much better ways to do discipline. Why
don't you learn them. I was a pediatric nurse specialist for many years, and
the American Medical Association has well documented evidence that paddling
can cause violence later in life. There are well documented scientific
    studies.
Violence begets violence. Positive reinforcement, team building, esteem
building and rules with consequences evenly and consistently applied works. Oh
I know its harder bu Try it sometime. Try telling the kids they will go to
Saturday School if they don't do the work (remember the breakfast club?)
