Re: Is this for real?
Posted by Laura on 4/06/08

I have taught high school for over 20 years. Paddling works better than
any alternative to change behavior that interfers with the chance other
students have to learn. We give students a choice of detention or
paddling, almost all take the paddling and it is over and done with.

When I first taught in the 1980's, I wasn't so sure about corporal
punishment and whether it was too harsh. I really wondered, so I asked
the assistant principal to administer a paddling to me, to find out. I
was 23 years old and weighed 105 pounds at the time. I got five licks
full on, just as administered to students. Yes. it hurt like CRAZY--my
buttocks was still bright red two hours later when I got home and it
hurt to sit or even jog for a week. But it is not unreasonable; just
    very effective.
