Is it worth it?
It depends upon A) what you want out of your membership and
B) what district you are in.
Your school board does not have to recognize your teachers
association. If more than 50% of your teachers in the
district belong, that is when the board is pretty much
obligated to recognize the group.
A good board will negotiate with the association and will
honor the agreement, however, they aren't legally bound to
do so. They can violate the agreement any time they see fit.
Most boards don't do that, of course, but that is what makes
AZ so different from most of the other states.
