Post: Special Education Learning Disabilities Multi-age

    Posted by JAM on 7/02/08

    Quick Question
I accepted a teaching job in a self contained classroom in
Phoenix for children, grades 3-5, who have moderate severe
learning disabilities. I am new to the state and I am
trying to figure out how I will teach the 8 children in
the classroom, all at various grade levels and performance
levels ranging from k-3, but who will be tested on grade
level AIMS. I am not sure how to adhere to grade level
standards for these students as they are not performing
anywhere near grade level (far from. Also the district
does not have a text for this self-contained class for
social studies or science, so I guess I need to look at 3
grade level for these subjects and somehow get each child
the information for such. Does any one know how all this
works in practice and not theory? If so, what do you
suggest and how do you go about making a lesson plan and
tying in state standards for each grade level? Any advice
    would be greatly welcomed
