I took all teacher certification tests in Mass including
history and mild/moderate special needs certificate tests
including reading. I had been a teacher for many years in MA
and went back to school to get bac in Mild/Moderate Special
Needs). I arrived down here and found out according to DOE
personnel that AZ did not have reciprocity with Mass. They
did not recognize the MTEL test validity although the AEPA
tests are written by the same company and basically the same
test in content. But AZ likes the revenue they receive for
teachers taking tests so I ended up taking 6 AEPA tests (yes
6) over the course of a year to teach down here. I think
that I had someone who had the incorrect information answer
my question at the DOE in Phoenix. Correspond with the
Flagstaff DOE. Much easier to get clear answers that are
meaningful. Also personnel much more knowledgeable about the
certification rules. Think very carefully before you make a
move. AZ is a third world country compared to MA when it
comes to quality of education and administration. It is very
backwards here and you may be appalled.
