I have visions of teachers going into homes with checklists and
examining the refrigerator, the number of occupants, the suspected
presence of illegal immigrants that we are taught to identify by the
clothing they wear or the way they speak English. I have lived in
cities in the Northeast and would not venture into the housing projects
up there. I wouldn't think of going into most of the homes of the
students I teach down here. Many of the parents are gang members or
wanna-bes. This is another hair-brained idea akin to allowing teachers
to carry guns in the classroom. If the legislators feel that we have the
spare time then the time can be better spent then going into private
homes. Going into private homes would just make us another branch of
    the police or Arpaio's group.
