Well, you're asking loaded questions. I will answer as best
as I can. I'm sure others can fill in some empty spaces for
answers, too!
1) Training/education - generally, you need to enroll in a
teacher preparation program with emphasis on secondary
education through a college/university and receive a
bachelor's degree. Part of that will include you completing a
period of student teaching (full-time teaching with no pay
for about 3 months), this is part of your teacher prep
program. Then, once you've obtained your degree, you will
need to take and pass 2 standardized tests called the Arizona
Educator's Proficiency Assessment (AEPA), the Professional
Knowledge (Secondary) and Subject Knowledge (whatever subject
you will want to teach).
2) Recommended school - that is tricky. You will want to hone
in on a particular district. Do you mind driving a longer
distance from home, or are you wanting to stay close to home?
3) What is an NRE grad?
4) What/how experience is required? - that depends on your
student teaching experience, if you plan to substitute teach,
or just try full on for a full-time position somewhere.
5) Current job outlook - terrible right now. There is an
overabundance of applicants, limited number of positions
availabe, and employers are being extremely picky right now
because they can. This lack of available positions is because
of budgetary cuts made by districts, made by the state, made
by our society. There may be more opportunities if overrides
are passed in some of the school districts. We won't know
about that until after next Tuesday when the community votes
in their respective school districts.
6) Starting salary - that depends on what district you are
interested in teaching. You can pull up the salary schedule
on each district website, generally speaking, and see for
yourself. Some districts start you based on years of
experience, some just start you at the first step no matter
how long you've been teaching. It just depends on where you
want to teach.
Hope those answers are helpful in the beginning of your
journey. Think hard about teaching, ESPECIALLY in Arizona!
