Hi all.
Anyone here have any detailed info on Arizona Virtual
Academy? Web site is: http://www.k12.com/azva/
I've written to them, and gotten the "company line", if you
know what I mean (not that there's anything wrong with
that!!).
But I was wondering if any of you yourselves have "taught"
there, or, done something comparable; i.e., some other
place that offers on-line education to elementary-age
students.
If any of you have....what's it like? What's your role
or "duties" as a teacher? What is it EXACTLY you do in
being a teacher on-line?
This is a "work-from-home" job, correct? You use your own
home computer? Are you required to stay logged-on to the
Internet all day? Or, just "check in" at certain times?
How is it that you "interact" with students (and parents)?
Is it all virtual? Or are there times where you meet in-
person?
I'm considering taking a crack at on-line education in the
role of a teacher. I've been a teacher here in AZ at
public schools for about ten years now. I love
teaching.....I love what I do.....but the state of
education in some of the districts.....the state of AZ
itself....I don't like the way things have GONE, the way
they are NOW, and the way they are GOING.....
I know Arizona is not the only state having trouble (or a
crisis) with teachers. But this state, this "right to work
state" (who thought THAT was a good idea?!?!).....the
policies they have and the ones they are thinking of
changing: Not having to offer a contract for the following
year by any kind of a deadline; tenure not really meaning
anything, that even if you are a 10 or 15 year veteran of a
given district, they can say "bye", we don't want you here
next year.
Anyway.....anyone? Any info about on-line education in the
role of a teacher? I know the pay will be a lot less than
at any public school, but that's not a concern right now.
Thanks for any info.
