Years ago, I too was a great believer in joining AEA, if for
anything else, the insurance and legal counsel.
For my $300 dues (now closer to 400 I believe), I got:
2 free beers at the beginning of the year social. Nothing else.
In fact, they do such a great job, that Arizona continues to slide
into the depths of darkness. We have the honor of being at the
bottom of most of the lists when it comes to education.
I know, I know. You will probably say that it isn't AEA's fault.
After all, they are not responsible for the decline in teachers'
status, pay, conditions, respect, etc. Well, what the heck to
people pay the hundreds of dollars per year for, then? Two beers?
What a waste of $$$.
Ok, all you AEA supporters (I mean, officials), please show me the
error of my thinking. After all, the usual argument "there is
strength in numbers...". I agree, you really make a lot of money
the more people you get to join.
Just wish you did something for the money you get.
