Arvada is part of the Jefferson County School District, and this is
    where I attended grades 7 - 9.

Oberon Junior High School and Arvada West High School both provided me
with excellent teachers and a quality education.

I was a serious student and my parents were involved and had high
    expectations.

That said, there were some mindless little thugs in some of my
classes, particularly at Oberon, but I think you'd have to travel a
lot farther than Colorado to find a school where every last one of the
    students is motivated and engaged.

At both schools, the majority of my teachers were hard working and
knowledgeable. There was one terrible English teacher at Oberon and
one at A-West. Otherwise, I would be delighted to have any of these
people as my own children's teacher.

I think that the Arvada area, especially the neighborhood where I grew
up, has improved since I was a kid. This was the early 80s, and most
of the parents were corporate go-getter types (or wannabes), the
divorce rate was 66 percent, and many parents valued money more than
children (though they had them anyway.)

Much has changed, mostly for the better. Parents are more involved in
their children's lives and education. You may, in fact, encounter the
opposite of your apathetic parent problem at schools such as Sierra
Elementary, where recently parents were so demanding that the
principal finally resigned - she just couldn't make anyone happy no
    matter what she did.
