I have two questions:

I have a BA in English, with an emphasis in writing. I have over 15 years' experience working as a journalist, marketing copywriter, editor, and proofreader. I have about 10 years' experience in education, having headed adult GED programs, taught middle-school Language Arts previously, substituted, and working as a para as well. I've also taught English and Journalism at the college level.

Are there any support or networking groups for Language Arts/Humanities/English/ESL/ELA teachers anywhere in Colorado? I have not been able to find anything concrete on the CDE or DPS websites. There are "information sessions" listed on the DPS calendar but they have no set dates, times, or locations and e-mails asking for this information have not been returned. Such groups would seem reasonable to want, but I have not been able to find any traces of them. Can anyone help with direct information?

Question two:

How do Language Arts instruct...See More
jesusita I'm not quite sure what you're looking for, but I think based on your post it's a job. You do have a lot of valuable experience that would directly relate to teaching Language Arts, but you don't mention whether or not you have a Teaching License. That is probably why you haven't gotten anywhere in your job search. It sounds to me like you don't ne...See More

I have recently received a Statement of Eligibility; which I guess means that now I may apply for English teaching positions and then when offered one take whatever courses may be required during that first year or two? So when looking for English teaching jobs, just tell everyone that I have a Statement of Eligibility fro...See More

jesusita I'm not familiar with the Statement of Eligibility, but it's certainly a start. I do know that this Saturday, March 26 CASPA is holding a job fair for the Metro area. You need to register in advance, and the cost is $20. Google CASPA and it should come right up. In all honesty, I would look into Charter Schools. They are given a lot more flexibilit...See More

479 The CASPA job fair is closed to anyone else trying to get in. I checked their website. I bought tix to another, upcoming one, though. I'll start checking the charter schools as well, and thanks for the input.
