I would say 80% of new hires have a connection to the district. They may have interned or grown up in the town. These people definitely have an advantage. The better the district the harder it is to get a job. Being certified in special education will help you. The one disadvantage is individuals certified in special ed. are usually forced by their district to teach it. Before getting a sp. ed cert, make sure you actually want to teach it/ I don't mean to discourage anyone. There are jobs in Connecticut. I think a lot of teachers have worked in an urban districts at some point to get experience. I would try to get some experience in a urban. That's what I did.
