    Post: After-School Opportunities for Teachers

Posted by Jan Gordon on 8/14/08

Chess Challenge in DC needs teachers to serve as chess
coaches in several middle schools. Chess Challenge in DC is
a non-profit organization bringing the game of chess to DC
youth as an out-of-school time program designed to develop
chess skills in a fun, non-threatening environment, to
increase analytic skills, and to build self-esteem,
    self-discipline & self-confidence. Chess Club meets twice a
week for 2 hours each session (4:30-6:30). Training will be
    provided. Responsibilities include: teaching specialized
chess lesson plans, working with children and volunteers,
attending tournaments and engaging students and parents.
Coaches perform some administrative duties, such as
attendance tracking and tournament registration. These
positions pay $30 per hour. Knowledge of chess is a
requirement, experience as a coach is not. If interested,
    please email jan.gordon@chesschallengeindc.org.
