Orlando Sentinel Education Blog:
Here is a little more information on the ramifications of the
Orange County school district's hiring freeze, which was
imposed not-quite two weeks ago at all but nine schools.
The district, working to get high-performing teachers in the
nine schools, has moved out 38 people who had taught on those
campuses, according to information from the district's human
resources department, relayed through Shari Bobinski, a
district spokesman.
Twenty nine of the 38 teachers voluntarily applied, and were
hired, for open jobs at other schools. Nine were
involuntarily transferred, Bobinski said.
The nine schools are Catalina, Ivey Lane, Hiawassee, Lovell
and Wheatley elementary schools and Carver, Memorial, Walker
and Westridge middle schools.
District officials previously said they would get
"high-performing staff" into those nine, then resume hiring
at other schools.
The reason for this is Florida's new Differentiated
Accountability system -- -- is the reason for the hiring
freeze,
